Small Paintings For Cards.

Tiny watercolours to make cards with.

Calm...
...a superpower.

I used to love this old saying.  Today, not so much.
In fact, cringeworthy.

These are still in-the-works.  Its such a perfect thing to be doing today in front of the window watching the entertaining snow.  And, I'm going to collect some better sayings because that one doesn't work for me anymore.  Fortunately, they're a dime a dozen:-)

Walking A Tightrope.

Remember him?  Part pony.  Part mountain goat.  Part Elephant.  Part bull.  Part tightrope walker.

I had to put it away for a long time and then excavate it to appreciate it.

Saint Teresa Says.

This is lettering practice.  It doesn't look half bad, and I'm not fishing for compliments here but it does not look how I want it to look.

Part of the problem is that I don't even know how I want it to look.  But now I know how I don't want it to look.
Maybe if I keep on keepin' on and work my way through every single wrong possibility in the universe, I'll get it.  I have to eventually.

I can do this.

And meanwhile, I'm not mad at this.  I don't even dislike it, I do like it.  Its a lovely little sentiment expressed.  I could make these all day and that's just what I'm going to do, I'm going to continue making these wrong versions until I eventually find what I'm looking for.  And until I find it, I'll have a bunch of quite suitable little watercolours to frame or to do whatever with.  They just won't be it.

Like I've said before, I learn by doing it wrong.  All wrong.  That's what those mermaids were all about.  I painted them and they're each lovely and unique and yah di yah di yah di but they're not it.

I'm striving for it and I'm going to keep going.  Its raining out, hard.  Its January. There's so much weirdness going on out in the world that I'm going to focus right here in front of me and get this right.  But first I'm going to venture out into the weirdness and the rain and give my ponies some more hay.  They'll be ecstatic and I'll be ready to focus afterwards, win win.

Art!...keep trying.

Early stages.

Her outfit inspired by millions.

Mommy Mermaid.

All the morning watercolours are blurring together.  Morning Mermaids.  I will get this out of my system at some point.

What a baby mermaid looks like.

The steps:

Its real hard to remember to snap photos along the way as you paint.

detail.

                  Mommy Mermaid
                  by tereSager

Mommy Mermaid braids her hair
while baby mermaid has no care
upon the rocks beside the sea.
The lullaby of distant shore

does beckon them to swim too near
where fishing boats will cast a snare.
This would be the lovely end
of dreaming idle in the sun.

But Mommy Mermaid will be strong.
Instead she sings a siren song
to lure the boats out to the deep
where her advantage she does reap.

A ship of fools upon the rocks
to mermaids is delightful.
They sit and watch and clap and sing,
entertainment so insightful.

There's no remorse for what she's done.
It's in her very nature
while baby mermaid learns the way
to avoid her certain capture.

Pleeeeease don't sue me, that is the worst poem ever.  I must need a nap.

Another mermaid soon...

Learning How To Paint A Mermaid.

Second attempt at this painting.  (See previous post for the first attempt).

My teen looked so puzzled when he asked me if the ship was stuck in her hair.

detail.

Her boobs are enormous and not-so-perky which proves that yes, we too can be a mermaid.

This is kinda sorta how I made this painting...

Meanwhile, I started two encaustic pieces because I had to.

This is a detail of the above unfinished piece.

And this is the second unfinished piece.  We'll see what happens with these...

Meanwhile, back home.
We all call it her "incubation station".

I think this version of the horseshoe mermaid is a lot more interesting than yesterday's version.  And I like that her body is not like Barbie's.  Its much looser even though its still not all that loose.  She seems somewhat disgusted by that starfish like "who put that here?!"
In any case, I wrote a poem and its not great but here goes:

                Where Mermaids Roam
                     by tereSager
Mermaids once roamed seven seas
they swam their depths in dreamy ease
and all the starfish laughed in love
because the ocean storms were few.

It started with a grain of sand
then all the leaves and all the land.
It parted with a swoop of dove
the ocean's made of Angel Dew.

The otters played in turquoise depths
and little wigglers walked the sand.
The land below so far deep down
and Mermaids wore a golden crown.

The water played its music tune
to hear upon a green lagoon.
The fishes danced upon the tide
but merriment's a dark deep hue.

And all the suns and all the wind
did not negotiate with sin.
The dove flew up then down below
his breath a softly righteous coo.

You Might Be Pretty,

This morning's watercolour.

She got new napo and is showing it off.

"You might be pretty, but this is my city."  Its the Ladies Of London theme song by Daniela Facchiano.  It was stuck in my head while I was painting.  I had an earworm.

In progress:

oops.

I might be singing that song all day long.
