The Back Room at Starbrick Gallery.

The backroom is overflowing with gorgeous local art, and it was time to rein it in yesterday.  I spent the day rearranging, cleaning, and giving this art some love.

I know these guys appreciated it.

These handwoven rugs and mats are so scrumptious.  I want them all, every single one.

These vases, they're blown glass.  Nick DelMatto makes them and they're rather fabulous.

Here's another one.  He just brought a batch in and they are scrumptious colours.

They actually "match" Jessica's wild coasters.  Now how did that happen?

This corner has such beautiful art.  It will hypnotize you so watch out.

And I love love love our Anthropologie-like walls.

Best walls ever.

Ok here you go, ceramic whistles.  An entire collection!  Yep.

And here's where it gets serious, the Tiaras.

Tina keeps us so well stocked, and her styles, her styles, they just keep getting better and better.  I mean, who doesn't need, positively need, a mermaid tiara?

And I got our sweet sweet Ann to pose for me:-)

So come on in and check out the gallery.  It changes constantly.  I can't even believe how fast it changes, the art that goes through this place is so beautiful, and its all locally made too.

Painting Elephants in the Morning.

Doesn't the building he swallowed look like a facade on a movie set, like its flat and leaning back slightly.  A facade.

I might have to add some black stars to this one.  We'll see.

So then I had to put trees on his forehead.

Adding Sleepers.

I added a sleeper in this elephant's stomach.  I couldn't not do it.  I hope its better. To see the "before" version go to my previous post.


I think this green kefir smoothie made me do it.

This baby was so good and so nutritious.  Can't you just smell the nutrition!?!

It had kale and chard and spinach and protein powder and kefir and a honey mango.

And it was served in my current favorite mug.  This here mug is a Pioneer Woman mug and it really is number one these days.


Does the sleeper make it more interesting?  Before it was just an elephant.  Now it has some intrigue to the story.  When I put a sleeper in a tree (several posts ago), well let me tell you, everybody seemed to love that painting.  So now, I might just add them to all my paintings.

OK not all, but some.


This is a sorrowful sight.  This kitten waited all night and all day in my teenager's bedroom for him to come home.  (This teenager just moved into a house full of college guys, he's having the time of his life, and he ain't comin' back anytime soon-or at least until he runs out of clean clothes).  I tried to tell her all this but it didn't take.

Its now evening and she is still waiting.  I snapped this picture early this morning.  Can't you somehow tell its Sunday morning in that photo, just by the vibe?

You'd think she would realize he moved, the sheets aren't even on the bed.  Our kitten is slow.  I'm going to go pet her and try once again to explain the situation. Goodnight lovely people.

Oh, and please let me know: "sleepers are good" v. "no to these sleepers".

Goodbye Ringling.

I'm realizing that I've painted several other "goodbye ringling" elephants.

So that means its official.  Its a series.

Eventually...Everything Connects-to the Trees.

This is an encaustic painting on wood, 6x12 inches.

The best thing about this painting is that I was able to complete it in one afternoon, always a challenge (for ME at least).  But I did it, I thought it through, sat down and started in, and I kept the notion in my mind that I was going to finish it in one sitting.

It helped immensely that it is only 6x12 inches.  With encaustic, there's so many layers, adding and scraping back.  So I kept it small and I kept it simple.  If I remember right, it has 9 or 10 layers???  Completely do-able in one afternoon. This is a real learning experience for me, I CAN do it, a painting a day.
